PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a chronic, non-contagious disease which affects the Skin characterized by flaking, reddish inflammation of the skin. The scaly patches are called as plaques where inflammation & excessive skin production is seen. Skin rapidly accumulates at these sites & shows silvery-white appearance. Once it was thought to be a skin disorder but it is understood to be a condition originating in the Immune system.
This disorder is a chronic recurring condition which varies in severity from minor localized patches to covering the entire body.
What is Psoriasis according to Ayurveda?
Kitibha kushtha/Siddhma kushtha, these are the types of Kushtha explained in Ayurvda which closely resembles with Psoriasis.
Basically Kushtha is a disease where vitiation of all 3 Doshas i.e. Vata, Pitta & Kapha occurs. Predominantly Vata & Kapha dosha are vitiated in this disease. Skin, Blood, Flesh, plasma & Lymphatic gets affected by these Doshas. These vitiated Dosha affect the skin. Hence skin becomes discolored, scaly & thin. These toxins result in contamination of deeper tissues resulting in Psoriasis.
What are the causes responsible for Psoriasis?
- Irregular food habits
- Consumption of Incompatible foods such as Milk with fish
- Excessive intake of Yogurt, Seafood, Sesame, Jaggery, excessive Carbohydrate intake, Sour & Salty food items

Signs & Symptoms
Psoriasis typically looks like red or pink areas of thick, raised with dry skin. It classically affects areas such as elbows, knees, scalp etc.
It has many different appearances. It may be small flattened bumps or large thick plaques of raised skin with red patches and pink, mildly dry skin to big flakes of dry skin which flakes off.
