A lot of people in this generation are living a very fast paced life. Each day seems to be packed with a lot of things to do. These things are barely humanly possible to do in 24 hours. People tend to not leave these things undone as the next day will be packed with its own activities. This in the long run leads people to attach little value to sleep and suffer from its lack thereof. Also the body gets accustomed to such lifestyle that sleep hardly comes even when there is nothing to do but sleep at night.

It is evident that this situation is majorly caused by one’s lifestyle. Since Ayurveda employs lifestyle remedies to imbalance situations it is the natural alternative medicine that should be sought to cure insomnia.

As per Ayurveda, there are three different types of insomnia.

Transient insomnia which lasts from one night to a few weeks, the root cause for this type of insomnia is stress, anxiety or jet lag.

Acute insomnia has a possible duration of a period of two weeks to a month.

Chronic insomnia generally persists over a period of at least six months.

There are herbal medicines that could be used in the process of curing insomnia such as Ashwaganda, Brahmi and Stress Guard, but there are other lifestyle and diet changes that would be stated in this post.

Before then it should be made known that in Ayurveda, Insomnia is termed Anidra. Drawing a clue from the Ayurvedic perspective, the doshas to whom responsibility can attributed for this disease are Tarpak Kapha, and possibly Sadhak Pitta.

Tarpak Kapha typically coming as a sub dosha of kapha as shown enough in its terminology is responsible for us enjoying a restful night’s sleep, it nourishes the brain cells. Imbalance of Tarpak sub dosha has the potency to trigger poor nourishment of the brain cells thereby impeding a good night’s sleep at the end resulting in insomnia.

The Sadhak Pitta sub dosha of fire (Pitta) dosha is assumed to be domiciled in the heart. This sub dosha is responsible for controlling the emotions, desires, decisiveness and spiritual aspects of man. The final sub dosha mentioned here which is the sub dosha of Air (Vata) dosha called Prana Vata is responsible for the sensitivity of the nervous system. It has an undeniable connection to worry, insomnia, and problems like depression. When your Prana Vata bursts out of control, insomnia becomes a likable reality due to over sensitivity of the nervous system.

Avoid eating plenty salts in your food or snacks.

Do not sleep much during the day.

Honey has been discovered to help improve sleep at night so it is advisable to try taking at least a glass of celery juice with honey before going to bed every night.
