BACK PAIN – SCOLIOSIS
Back pain is becoming a very common problem now-a-days due to incorrect sitting and sleeping posture or lack of required stretch provided to the spine. The general increase in use of technology which keeps us glued to a spot which can sometimes hamper the body posture and also cause terrible aches. Also, in the long run back pain can be quite harmful due to its widespread roots. Scoliosis is the disorder where your spine curves ie. It may develop a ‘C’ or ‘S’ shape. It is accompanied by numbness, tingling or weakness.
Acute back pain may last from few days to few weeks. Mostly acute back pain is due to trauma to lower back such as sports injury, sudden jolt due to accident or other stress on spinal bones or tissues.
According to Ayurveda, back pain can be related with Kati-shoola [Kati-lower back, shoola-pain].
Diseases due to vitiated Vata dosha are numerous but cardinal symptom of vitiation of Vata dosha is pain.
What are the causes of Back pain?
Back pain often develops without a specific cause. But conditions which are commonly related with back pain are
- Muscle or ligament strain-It is generally caused by a sudden jolt or very brisk physical activity and can be related any kind of sports injury.
- Bulging or ruptures spinal disc-A disc which cushions your spinal bones weakens and hence loses its shape.
- Spinal degeneration
- Arthritis
- Fibromyalgia-It is a condition where pain is spread throughout your body can reduce your threshold for pain.
- Scoliosis-The spine loses its shape and develops a curving shape
- Osteoporosis-It is a physical condition where your bones weaken and become brittle
- Spondylitis-A type of disorder where you feel pain in the spine and can induce stiffness below your neck.
Signs & Symptoms
Symptoms may include
- Shooting or Stabbing pain
- Radiating pain generally down the leg
- Limited movements or flexibility of the back
- Inability to stand straight
- Muscle sprain
